Healthcare Asks: How Do I Find Care Nationwide?

Feb 1, 2024 | 5 minute read

In our Healthcare Asks series, we ask healthcare industry experts some of the most common healthcare questions we hear from members. For more straight answers to your healthcare questions, check out the Healthcare Asks playlist on YouTube. And don’t forget to subscribe to our channel while you’re there!

Are you curious about how to find care while traveling or living in another state, and what services are covered? It’s a question we get a lot, but the answer is a pretty simple one!

As a Premera member, you have access to providers across the country, and your benefits work the same no matter where you’re located in the United States. To learn more about finding care wherever you are, watch the video below, which addresses some of the most common questions people find themselves facing on this topic.

If you need to access care but don’t know where to turn, one resource at your disposal is Premera’s Find a Doctor tool. With this tool, you can find a clinician who is in-network with your Premera health plan. Using this tool, you can find primary care providers and specialists near you, wherever you are.

How to use the tool

  • Sign in to your member account at premera.com
  • Go to Find Care and then Find a Doctor
  • Click the blue search your network button
  • Select current location or enter your city, state, or ZIP code
  • Find a doctor who is in-network and accepting new patients

Another option is Premera’s free 24-hour NurseLine. If you need advice on your healthcare options in a pinch, you can call a nurse who will help you understand what your options are. You can find the phone number on the back of your member ID card.

And if you’re traveling outside of the United States, you can use the Blue Cross Blue Shield Global Core service to find care internationally. We do suggest you research care options before traveling internationally, in case you encounter issues accessing websites or phone numbers during your trip.

Different plans may include different benefits, so it’s always a good idea to review your summary of benefits so you understand your coverage prior to seeking care. You can also visit our website to learn more about receiving care while traveling and be confident knowing that wherever you go, Premera is there for you.
