Safe, easy, and affordable access to appropriate vaccinations is a fundamental aspect of preventive care and a cornerstone to our modern healthcare system.
That’s why Premera health plans cover preventive vaccinations as a standard part of our preventive care benefits.
Health plans, including Premera, cover Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) recommended preventive vaccines without cost sharing, in line with federal requirements as part of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and the Inflation Reduction Act, as well as requirements under Medicaid, the Vaccines for Children program, and the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP).
We also look to clinical recommendations from a broad array of respected medical organizations, independent expert groups, and state health departments for guidance to ensure our members and their families have access to evidence-based preventive care such as vaccinations.
The Washington State Department of Health (DOH) continues to recommend that everyone, including children, keep up to date on recommended vaccinations. The Alaska Department of Health also continues to recommend that Alaskans follow ACIP recommended vaccines, including flu and COVID vaccinations. The West Coast Health Alliance continues to recommend vaccinations in alignment with the American Academy of Pediatrics.
Premera will continue to adhere to evidence-based medicine guidelines, regularly review federal and state guidelines, and follow the recommendations of professional medical societies to guide our coverage decisions for vaccines.
If you have a question about what vaccinations are appropriate for you and your family, please consult with your healthcare provider. If you have questions about what vaccinations are covered by your Premera health plan, please don’t hesitate to contact our customer service team by calling the phone number on the back of your Premera health plan ID card.
