Starting January 1, 2025, Premera Blue will no longer offer Medicare Advantage plans. This decision has been influenced by changing market conditions and financial pressures.
By exiting the Medicare Advantage market, Premera plans to redirect its resources toward other growing business lines, such as employer-sponsored health plans, Medicare Supplement plans, and plans offered under the Affordable Care Act. This change allows Premera to invest more in innovative programs that aim to increase access to affordable healthcare.
If you’re one of the nearly 32,000 Premera members currently enrolled in a Medicare Advantage plan across Washington, this transition may affect you, but the company remains committed to ensuring you have continuous support through the end of 2024. You won’t be left to navigate this change on your own. Premera will provide uninterrupted service through 2024, and local insurance brokers will be available to help you find new coverage options for 2025.
Even though we will no longer offer Medicare Advantage plans in 2025, Premera isn’t leaving the senior market entirely. We’ll continue to offer Medicare Supplement plans, serving more than 58,000 members in Washington and Alaska.
Remember, the annual open enrollment period is your opportunity to review your options and select a health plan that best fits your needs. It starts in mid-October and runs through early December.
